NwGC 2020 – CANCELLED

After untold hours of discussion and anguish, the difficult decision has been made to cancel the Northwest Genealogy Conference 2020, originally scheduled for August 12-15, in Arlington, WA.

This decision was not made lightly. Considering the myriad issues yet to be resolved surrounding the Covid-19 virus situation, this was the most prudent course of action to take. We know this will be a disappointment for our members and for attendees, who have come to the Conference to receive excellent training and teaching at the Premier Genealogy Conference in the Northwest.

Refunds will be processed as soon as possible.
Thank you for your past, and future, support of the NwGC.

March 10 Meeting Cancelled

In an abundance of caution, the Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society has decided to cancel our monthly meeting for Tuesday March 10th at the library. However, we are investigating an alternative method of making the Mayflower presentation by Lori Lee Sauber available. Details will be provided as they develop.

Introducing Keynote Speaker Kathleen Kaldis

This week we’re introducing you to Kathleen Kaldis (Genealogist, New England Regional Genealogical Consortium (NERGC) 2020 Director, Lecturer). She is a professional genealogist who is known as The Ancestor Finder. Her interest in genealogy started at a young age when she heard stories about how her great great-grandfather, who was born on Cape Breton Island, came to Boston to build Fenway Park. Her enthusiasm shines through when she shares her passion of genealogy with her clients and audiences.

Her classes will be as follows:
Friday, August 14
• 3:30 pm: Huzzah! There’s a Lineage Society for That!
Saturday, August 15
• 8:30 am: Land Ho! Calling All Mayflower Descendants
• 11:30 am: From Pilgrims to Pioneers: Researching Your New England Ancestors
• 2:00 pm: Folklore, Tall Tales, and Genealogy: Finding the Stories in Your Family Tree

In the year of celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower we’re sure you’ll find Kathy’s topics an entertaining learning experience.

UPDATE: Possible Snow Closures

Today’s meeting is CANCELLED due to the snow and we will likely be closed this Thursday as well.  Please check our website to make sure we are open before attempting to come into the library.

With snow in the forecast, it is possible that we will need to close the Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society Library.  Please check our website for information on closures; we will post there as soon as we know we need to close. Irish Ancestry?

Irish birth, marriage and death certificates now available online for free.  Our society genealogist, Jennifer Strickland, shared an article that she found online.  You can read it for yourself at: https://www.irishcentral.com/roots/genealogy/irish-geneaology-resource-free#.XajSovad5w1.facebook . This website is not a genealogy website but does have a section on genealogy.  It has links for news, culture, roots, travel and more.
